Reaf is one of the four planets that reside within the Saleria Sector.
Topography and Astrography
Super Destroyers in orbit over Reaf
The Green Hills of Reaf
Similar to Bellatrix, Volterra, Hort and Afoyay Bay, Reaf is a planet comprised almost entirely of lush, green grasslands that smoothly wave with various hills and valleys that are only occasionally interrupted by the odd, sharp ridge, cliff or either of the 3 major lakes that can be found throughout Reaf's surface or one of the two polar oceans. Reaf's grasslands are constantly showered by regular rainstorms, which while making the soil more than ideal for agriculture, it also makes long range engagements with any hostile alien invaders slightly more difficult as the added mist and rain droplets obstruct visibility. However, the added rain can allow for stealth operations to be conducted more easily.
A notable form of xenoflora found on Reaf are Spore Clusters. These are small lumps of brown Fungi which, when disturbed, violently release a cloud of non-toxic spores that acts similarly to a smoke cloud, obstructing visibility for friendlies and foes alike. However, if the fungi is disturbed by munitions of any kind, the expulsion of its spore cloud will be violent enough to ragdoll a Helldiver and leave them stunned for a couple seconds after they stand up. In the process, the Spore Cluster is destroyed.
Reaf is not home to any notable Mega Cities or significant facilities. However, Reaf's surface is dotted by a small collection of urban settlements that houses its rural population. Besides these settlements, the undeveloped highlands of Reaf are also sparsely dotted by detached settler dwellings, frontier camps, farms, broadcash stations, research outposts, E-710 Storage Silos and
S.E.A.F. facilities. Additionally, having been part of the
Illuminate Empire until the First Galactic War, Reaf's surface is home to many ancient ruins of the Illuminate. However, do remember: Only a traitor is curious about alien artifacts!
The Reaf System is comprised of planet Reaf itself, its white, rocky moon and at least 2 other astronomical bodies, which are a gas giant and a green, rocky planet.
History
Second Galactic War
Illuminate Raid Campaign (Dec. 16, 2184- Apr. 29, 2185)
Reaf was a simple, peaceful colony located within the Galactic South. Reaf's many urbanized settlements across its surface made it a critical planet within the broader Federation of
Super Earth, consistently proving its status as an important economic hub rich in both agricultural production and industry enterprises. Along with the rest of its neighbors within the Saleria Sector and the entirety of the Galactic South, Reaf had managed to avoid the horrors of the Second Galactic War that were unfolding across the Eastern Front and the Western Front, with both the
Terminids and
Automatons wreaking havoc within their respective territories. So far, they had both avoided marching all the way to the South, leaving Reaf and the rest of the industrialized Galactic South in a tense, but lasting peace.
In December 2184, amidst then-ongoing
Helldiver efforts against the
Terminids during Operation Bughammer, Reaf would watch on in horror as an emergency SOS beacon was issued from its neighbor within the Saleria Sector, Calypso. The
Illuminate, a foe long thought defeated a century ago during the First Galactic War, had shockingly resurfaced out of complete thin air and began to launch an insurmountable, massive assault on Calypso's surface. Operation Bughammer was swiftly terminated by High Command, with all Helldivers in active service and the reserve ordered to defend Calypso from the seemingly resurgent ancient invaders.
After 71 hours and 51 minutes of fighting, with just 9 minutes before projections indicated that the
Illuminate would take over Calypso, the
Helldivers had managed to defend the planet superlatively, expunging the alien invaders from its surface. Reaf and the rest of the Saleria Sector would breathe a deep sigh of relief, knowing that they were saved from the Illuminate threat.
However, discontent with their defeat on Calypso, the
Illuminate had more numbers in their arsenal than previous High Command projections would indicate. Though thought to be fully defeated once again, the Illuminate would prove otherwise and began two simultaneous raid assaults on Genesis Prime and Mog on December 16th. Clearly resurgent and very much not eradicated, the Illuminate had now seemingly managed to enter the Second Galactic War, forcing
Super Earth into a three-front war once again.
The
Illuminate would continue their raids across the south through April 2185. Every 12 hours, Squ'ith invaders began assaulting a new planet, ransacking the planetary infrastructure of each attacked planet and kidnapping more and more colonists to be converted into mindless Voteless. Though they wouldn't capture any planets in the process, their raids left each planet devastated and needing to be rebuilt extensively.
Sadly for Reaf, it wouldn't avoid this fate. It would face at least one
Illuminate raid across its surface, leaving its planetary infrastructure in severe ruin and needing aid to be rebuilt later on.
Operation Tide of Tyranny
Luckily for Reaf, its time for rebuilding would be lengthy. Following the end of the
Illuminate raid campaign in April 2185, Reaf would only be devastated once by the xenophobic raiders in that time, which would require a dedicated, yet shorter rebuild effort compared to many of its neighbors who suffered worse fates.
After their pathetic failure to capture Super Earth in May, the
Illuminate would retreat to their hideouts in the Galactic South to begin re-establishing their former empire. Slowly but surely, they would entrench themselves within the Ferris, Hanzo, and Omega Sectors. Eventually, these territorial land gains would culminate in a massive northward push into the Rictus, Morgon, and even the Super Earth-bordering Cancri Sectors during the Tripartite Offensive of August 2185.
The
Illuminate advance would eventually be halted at Seyshel Beach, and from there, the
Helldivers would engage in a counter-offensive aimed at striking at the backline planets occupied by the Illuminate within the Omega, Hanzo, and Ferris Sectors through October. Yet, this game of cat and mouse would eventually see the
Illuminate escape and invade the previously unoccupied Rigel Sector to maintain their backline worlds, proving how difficult it can be to halt the tide of tyranny.
So far, Reaf had managed to avoid the horrors happening to the east of the Saleria Sector, though they were never truly out of harm's way, with the
Illuminate menace lurking on Parsh and Genesis Prime. Though the Saleria Sector's FTL lines remained cut off, much like the majority of the Southern Galactic Sectors, this would change on October 27th when FTL lines were established throughout the entirety of the South in a move to improve cooperation across each planet. The Saleria Sector would be no different in this regard, as each planet within would re-establish lines, including Reaf.
However, alongside increased coordination amongst
Super Earth planets, the
Illuminate would also seemingly join in and establish their own FTL lines from their planets within the Rictus and Omega Sectors to the Akira, Saleria, and Xi Tauri Sectors- a dire warning that their offensive to retake the rest of the South was likely imminent. Reaf would be sadly unscathed by this development, as the Squ'ith menace on Parsh established an FTL line directly to Reaf, indicating that Reaf was now likely no longer to be spared as much as it had been during the War.
At the beginning of November, the
Illuminate would launch their first large-scale offensive since the Tripartite Invasion as they attacked Shete and Alaraph, their first foray into the Xi Tauri Sector while marking their return to the Akira Sector. This would come at the time of a broad
Super Earth effort to extract resources from Andar and Asperoth Prime to rebuild York Supreme on Super Earth, which was devastated by the Illuminate invasion in May. The
Helldivers were ordered to hold Andar and Asperoth for a week while these resources were extracted, and they did so in the most valiant manner. The
Illuminate wouldn't even get within 3 FTL lines of either planet when all was said and done, and the only planets lost during the offensive were Hydrobius and Zea Rugosia- both of which weren't all too related to the Major Order itself. The
Illuminate were decisively beaten and were forced to retreat to their holdings.
Yet, it seemed that the Squ'ith were only fueled by more rage and disappointment to make another persistent, dastardly attempt at expanding to the west. On November 20th, mere minutes after the end of Operation Big Brother, all 3 enemy factions would take advantage of a thinly stretched
S.E.A.F. due to the dissident crisis on Gaellivare, Alta V, and Diluvia. An offensive began in earnest, with the
Terminids opening proceedings by assaulting Inari, which was quickly followed up by a sizable
Illuminate attack on Reaf. Minutes after, Vog-Sojoth would also come under a large
Automaton assault.
Now on the backfoot, High Command immediately issued a new Major Order calling for the
Helldivers to defend against at least 8 attacks from any faction. Additionally, it seemed that the
Terminids were likely to menace the critical
Xenoentomology Centre on Turing according to intel streams. Due to this intel, along with the indication by High Command that the assault by the
Terminids seemed to be the most aggressive of any of the attacks, the
Helldivers were ordered to hold Turing at any cost.
The
Helldivers began to split between all affected worlds to halt this seemingly smaller-scale, yet still powerful Tripartite Attack. The vast majority of Helldivers would choose to defend Inari from the
Terminid Swarm, leaving the defenses at Vog-Sojoth and Reaf to be more undermanned. Reaf, in particular, would receive a very limited influx of Helldivers as just under 2,000 of the Corps joined the defense of the planet. Despite the critical position of Reaf as a gateway to the rest of the southwest, the planet is under heavy pressure with an undersized defense force.}
TLDR: Reaf fell November 21st. Not captured since.
Operation Ad Memoriam
TLDR: Designated as MO Target on May 20th alongside Irulta, Parsh, Mog and Kerth Secundus. Due to prior planetary campaigns + Minor Order on Terminids (Brilliance Perimeter), Reaf would see no activity. Community members would debate between either going for Reaf directly or taking Irulta, thus cutting Reaf off and starting a siege. By May 27th, DSS went to Reaf and most of the blob followed. Campaign on Reaf went surprisingly fast and Reaf would be liberated on May 27th at 14:15 SEST. SOMEONE WRITE THIS UP
