Turing is one of the four planets that reside in the Umlaut Sector.

Topography and Astrography

The

The Super Earth Icon Democracy Space Station in orbit over Turing.

Turing is a vibrant jungle planet, characterized by its exotic, colorful xenoflora. Much of the planet's surface is covered in purplish grasses, which release large amounts of pollen into the air. Its trees are divided between taller purple varieties and shorter red varieties. While Turing's vistas of lavender valleys and sharp blue seas and lakes are undoubtedly a sight to behold, Citizens are reminded that recreational photography is restricted around the area of the Xenoentomology Center and the rest of the Barrier Planets, despite the decommissioning of all Termicide Dispersion Facilities.

During the early months of the Galactic War, Turing was chosen as one of four planets to house Termicide Dispersion Towers for the Terminid Control System, being one of four Barrier Planets alongside its neighbors Fenrir III, Meridia and Erata Prime. However, following the failure of the TCS, Helldivers would be deployed to Turing to deactivate these appliances, to prevent Turing and the rest of the Barrier Planets from being transformed into Supercolonies by the Terminids like Meridia had been. Later on in the Galactic War, Turing would be chosen as the home to the Galaxy's leading Science Icon Xenoentomology Centre, where Super Earth's leading Terminid experts and FTL engineers from across the galaxy converge to begin development of High-Efficiency Alcubierre Drives. In this facility, new Alcubierre Drives would be developed for the Super Earth Icon Democracy Space Station and critical research endeavors have been conducted on the many strains of the Terminids Icon Terminid Horde.

Due to the construction of the Science Icon Xenoentomology Centre, 3 new Mega Cities had to be built in order to house all of the facility's staff. The Mega Cities will be mentioned next by tier. Mega City Tiers have no effect on level generation and only serve to determine the city's health pool in the galactic war map. These Mega Cities are the town of Carbondale, the City of Chatoyant and the Planetary Capital City of Periwinkle Mills. Besides these 3 Mega Cities, Turing is dotted by several urban settlements scattered across its lavender jungles, while the remaining undeveloped wilderness is home to detached settler dwellings, frontiersmen camps, SEAF logo S.E.A.F. bases and abandoned TCS facilities.

The astonishing beaches of Turing.

The astonishing beaches of Turing.

The Turing System consists of planet Turing itself and at least 5 other astronomical bodies, which are a planet with a ring system, a red dwarf planet and its smaller moon, a red gas giant and a white gas giant. Prior to being the site of the Science Icon Xenoentomology Centre, Turing was one of the 4 Barrier planets where the Terminid Control System was initially deployed, making it one of the 4 planets that marked the end of the Terminid Front. However, after the failure of the TCS and the destruction of Meridia, Turing soon became the gateway into the Jin Xi Sector and later the Borgus Sector. Turing's position is advantageous for all research matters involving the Terminids Icon Terminid Horde and, by extension, The Gloom, which in turn also makes it very vulnerable to attacks from the fascist insectoids. Because of the presence of the Science Icon Xenoentomology Centre, control over Turing is critical and, should no orders be active, its liberation and defense are to be prioritized.

History

Special Military Operations

Deployment of the Terminid Control System

Turing was once a peaceful planet colony of Super Earth in the Eastern Galactic Rim. Following the end of the First Galactic War, Turing was settled during the Great Expansion Era and, as the colonists mastered their environment, would come to prosper, as the generations passed and the first base camps soon turned into the settlements that later becames the town of Carbondale and the cities of Chatoyant and Periwinkle Mills. However, the Terminid scourge would soon thrust Turing into a streak of chaos that nobody could have anticipated.

Turing was briefly a frontline planet from the February 14th to February 23rd, 2184. A Terminid outbreak occurred in the area on March 6th, causing fighting to resume until the 14th of March. Fighting ended with the establishment of the Terminid Control System on the planet. Turing was not considered a strategically important world at this point, allowing the fascist Terminid pest on her surface to persist unchecked for far too long.

Failure of the Terminid Control System

On April 29th, Operation Legitimate Undertaking was interrupted by massive Terminid outbreaks in the Umlaut sector, including on Turing. A malfunction in the TCS allowed the bugs to reproduce at a much higher rate, turning the neighboring planet Meridia into a Supercolony. The Helldivers were quickly deployed to deactivate the TCS throughout the Umlaut Sector. On May 3rd, the TCS on Turing was shut down, preventing it from meeting the same tragic fate as Meridia. However, its close proximity to the Supercolony left it at constant risk of assault.

Second Galactic War

On May 21, 2184, after the declaration of the Second Galactic War, the Terminids launched another brutal assault against Turing. The Helldivers were dispatched here and heroically routed the enemy by day's end. On May 24th, another assault was launched. Unfortunately, with Helldivers' attention being split between Varylia 5 and Angel's Venture, local defense forces were overrun by the tyrannical bugs, who quickly re-occupied the planet. The very next day, Operation Enduring Peace was announced to retake Turing and establish a foothold toward liberating Meridia.

Operation Enduring Peace

To properly deal with Meridia, the SEAF retook and defended Turing, along with Angel's Venture and Fenrir III. On June 1st, with progress on destroying Meridia well underway, the Terminids launched an opportunistic strike on Turing. The Defense of Turing began on June 1st, with ~10,000 Helldivers being dispatched here, and another ~3,500 fighting on nearby Acamar IV. Though the Terminids' tyrannical methods allowed them to gain the upper hand, the SEAF was able to control the planet for long enough to provide a temporary foothold toward Meridia. Operation Enduring Peace came to an end with the collapse of Meridia into a black hole using Dark Fluid technology.

Operation Destiny Manifested

With the Meridia Supercolony being permanently destroyed, the SEAF was ordered to take back nearby contested planets: Turing, Erata Prime, Acamar IV, and Phact Bay. Turing was the first planet to be liberated in this successful operation, allowing Super Earth citizens to finally resettle the lands they had been forced to abandon.

Operation Glorious Xenocide

Turing was briefly attacked on July 21st. The Helldivers held the line valiantly and turned the Terminid assault around, now forcing them back to Acamar IV and then, on July 23rd, back to Gacrux.

Operation Alcubierre-II

Following the last assault onto Turing, it spent the rest of the summer of 2184 in relative peace, as the Terminids shifted focus towards the rest of the Jin Xi Sector. With the apparition of the Gloom, most threats to Turing's security were gone, as the planets within the Gloom that could have posed a threat seemingly stopped attacking its neighbors. However, the threat at Gacrux still remained. After Acamar IV fell on September 25th, Turing would immediately be attacked by the Terminids, just as Super Earth ordered the construction of a new Xenoentomology Center on the planet.

As such, the Helldivers were ordered to defend and hold Turing while construction was underway, as this new center would help make the Alcubierre Warp Drive of the Super Destroyers more efficient in its E-710 consumption. As such, the Helldivers deployed en masse once more onto the planet, holding the line from September 27th to September 29th, successfully driving back the insectoid menace.

Turing would be successfully defended on September 26th. However, due to its newly found relevance in relation to the Democracy Space Station, the Terminids would make huge efforts to invade the planet in order to impede the construction of the Xenoentomology Center. After they amassed their forces following their defeat at Achird III, the Terminids would launch a second final assault from Acamar IV once more on October 2nd. However, this time, the Helldivers would not only successfully rally at Turing and deliver a crippling blow to the fascist bugs, but they would also wind up liberating Acamar IV, cutting off a nearby source of terminid spores and setting up a defensive perimeter around the planet that, for the moment, safeguards the planet and its new xenoentomology center.

Meanwhile the other side of the galaxy, the Automatons attempted to capitalize on our noble scientific efforts by assaulting Mastia intending to cut off the DSS Logistics Hub from the DSS itself. But the Helldivers quickly organized a daring counterattack, saving Mastia and liberating Shelt in the process.

Thanks to these valiant efforts, ground has been broken on the new Xenoentomology Center on Turing. Super Earth's leading Terminid experts and FTL engineers from across the galaxy have converged on the planet to begin development of High-Efficiency Alcubiere Drives. These new drives will enable the Democracy Space Station to warp between planets at the Helldivers' direction, dispensing Freedom wherever it is needed. Research and development of this new technology will take weeks, during which time the center must remain safe from Terminid infestation, or our research progress will be lost. Thanks to the valiant efforts of the Helldivers, all of humanity will soon step forward into a more prosperous, energy efficient, and peaceful future.

Operation Spark of Liberty

Turing would remain free of any Terminid presence after the construction of the Xenoentomology Center concluded. It would seem that, after all, things hadn't come to boil, even after the severe tactical miscalculation at Gacrux during Operation Crossroads. But the seeds of fascism had already been sown on the Terminid Research Preserve, and it was only a matter of time before their bore their nefarious fruits.

On November 12th, in the middle of a busy day for the Tyranny Park, a massive underground Terminid hive erupted spontaneously, leading to a bloody massacre of visitors and park staff alike. Acamar IV was overrun in mere minutes, which prevented the nuclear security measures from being activated and allowed the Terminids to take over the planet without any impediment. Once Acamar IV fell, it launched 5 simultaneous attacks onto all of the planets connected to it. This catastrophe could not have been any more poorly timed, as the Jet Brigade had also just returned in massive numbers and destroyed the DSS Logistics Hub on Tarsh.

The painting was clear on the wall that the Helldivers had to act quick before more damage had to be done. Despite Acamar's positioning, High Command gave the indication to protect the Xenoentomology Center at Turing by all means, as it still contained critical research material on the Terminids, pretty much dooming Acamar IV and all of its attached planets to perdition.

After 16 hours of fighting, Turing was saved, at the expense of losing not just Acamar but also all the other planets connected to it except for Turing. With the Jet Brigade approaching Mastia, the final nail in the coffin was put, with 3 months of sacrifices being lost as the Borgus Sector fell back to Terminid control, while the Jin Xi sector's liberation was pretty much undone.

Operation Impending Gloom

On the 25th of January, 2185, the brilliant scientists stationed at the Xenoentomology Center on Turing would report a new major discovery, one with huge implications for the future of citizen prosperity and Managed Democracy itself. Recent experimentation on Terminids using collected Gloom spores indicated that Gloom-induced mutations may dramatically increase Element 710-yield. In lab conditions, some specimens yielded up to 10x more E-710 compared to the control group.

The implications of this result are monumental as the Gloom may represent a vast, untapped source of new energy. It's exploitation could enable FTL travel beyond military and colony settlement operations-expanding to trade and research sectors, as well as to more military and colony settlement operations. Of course, many challenges must be overcome to realize this potential future. These early results had to be substantiated and verified, and the Gloom itself remains impenetrable to all observation or travel within. Therefore, development of Gloom-resistant technology is now a top-level priority.

The Xenoentomology Center would be directed to halt all other research projects and focus on this singular field. The Helldivers meanwhile were directed to support these efforts by collecting as many scientific samples as possible from Gloom-adjacent Terminid planets. However having learned from the counterfeit samples debacle, new detection measures had been put in place and strengthened since such samples were received the last time the Ministry of Science made such a request. It is anticipated that such measures should be sufficient to prevent history from repeating.

Indeed, the Helldivers quickly proven themselves specimen retrieval experts and stalwart allies of scientific progress, in addition to Democracy's most elite defenders by retrieving the required samples several days of ahead of schedule AND putting down a Terminid outbreak on Fenrir III. After innumerable scientific expeditions, the Xenoentomology Center has more than enough Terminid specimens to progress development on Gloom-resistant technology.

Almost immediately, the samples collected by the Helldivers allowed the Xenobiologists to achieve promising results. Gloom-like environments could now be artificially created in laboratory conditions, allowing testing of filtration systems and spore-resistant materials. Extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic waves in particular have proven effective at penetrating dense Gloom, and may enable orbit-to-ground communication and long-range radar astronomy. Much work remains, but thanks to the Helldivers, the first expeditions into the Gloom -- as well as the subsequent acquisition of its potentially vast E-710 reserves -- may soon be within reach.

Operation Sushi Bar

In a desperate attempt to destroy the repulsive gravity field generator, the illuminate would launch attacks into the Umlaut and Atlus sectors in an effort to destroy critical research infastructure. Turing would fall victim to an attack on April 21st. It was defended but attacked yet again on April 23rd, when it was defended yet again, and liberty remained free on Turing.

But peace wouldn’t last long as Turing would be attacked for a third time on April 21st, this time being one of three targets targeted by the illuminate during their targeted incursions into Super Earth Territory. With the Helldivers spread thin between Turing and its galactic neighbor, Fenrir III, it was too late to save either even with the last minute activation of the DSS eagle-storm.

During this, the Illuminate would unfortunately discover the Xenoentomology Center, and craving more carnage than they had already caused, let the captive Predator Strain Icon Predator Strain on the planet out of their enclosures. The bugs rapidly reproduced and with the planetary defenses already down, the situation was far outside of the scientists’ control. Turing fell to the Predator Strain shortly after the Illuminates departure, with the hard working scientists left slaughtered by both Squids and Bugs in cold blood. All opposition of Democracy shall pay for the tragedy that happened today, both Squid and Bug alike.

Operation Omens Undone

In the immediate aftermath of the fall of Turing, the Predator Strain Icon Predator Strain was extremely numerous in the world, having a 2.5% decay rate. With the operation to repel Illuminate invasions still ongoing, it seemed likely the planet would fall fully into the hands of the Terminids Icon Terminids. The Predator Strain Icon Predator Strain, ever mindless in their rapidly spreading plague, had more nefarious intentions than that. Some hours after the takeover of Turing, the Predator Strain Icon Predator Strain launched a powerful invasion of Veld.

Operation Damage Control

Though designated as a Major Order target, Turing was thankfully cleansed of Terminids Icon Terminids already and no attacks would occur for the duration of the Major Order. Even so the price of freedom is eternal vigilance and with so many of the federation's strategically vital planets occupied, it was a tactically sound move on the part of High Command to keep an eye on the few that remained free just in case.

Operation Gloom Piercer

On the 30th of July, 2185, experimentation by scientists of the Xenoentomology Center would discover that the reason The Gloom prevents FTL travel is because Gloom spores coat FTL drive components, fusing to them at high temperatures and causing catastrophic meltdowns. Working in conjunction with the AM factory hub on Achernar Secundus, a new synthetic polymer coating would be developed using protein structures derived from Terminid exoskeletons, which has shown promise in disrupting Gloom spore surface cohesion.

At the same time, Spore Burst Terminid Strain Terminids originating from Fori Prime would be sighted outside The Gloom for the first time. This development was concerning though high command also considered it an opportunity to collect biological samples of Terminids originating within the Gloom and fast-track mass-synthesis of effective Gloom shielding polymers.

Thus the Helldivers Companion Helldivers were ordered to collect 30,000,000 Rare Terminid Samples, particularly those in the Jin Xi Sector. Additionally, they were also ordered to hold Turing and Achernar Secundus as developing the new Gloom shielding would be impossible without our brilliant scientists and vital engineers. This decision would prove prudent as the Spore Burst Strain quickly spread through worlds already dominated by the Terminids Icon Terminids. First spreading from Gacrux to Pandion-XXIV, then to Phact Bay and from there Darius II, Achird III and finally to Turing by the 2nd of August.

Achernar Secundus also came under attack, with the Helldivers Companion Helldivers at first choosing to prioritize the federation's engineers over it's scientists, before finally reinforcing Turing on the 3rd of August with 33,000 individual Helldivers Companion Helldivers. However by now the Terminids Icon Terminids had taken much ground and the planet may have been lost were it not for the valiant defense of the city of Chatoyant by the combined forces of the SEAF logo S.E.A.F. which would turn narrowly the tide of the invasion. Victory would finally be achieved on the 4th of August at 10:30 AM SEST.

Operation Ultrakill (Aug. 19, 2185)

Turing would go on quietly following its successful defense against the powerful Terminid incursion. Its scientists would continue to work in conjunction with Achernar's engineers, ensuring that our inevitable expeditions into The Gloom will last much longer.

Meanwhile, the planet would watch on as the Helldivers Companion Helldivers engaged in offensives against both the Automatons Icon Automatons and the Terminids Icon Terminids, first liberating the entirety of the Nanos Sector from the bots. Following those efforts, the Helldivers turned to the East, and from Aug. 13-19 would engage in the successful liberation campaigns of Bore Rock, Crimsica, Pandion-XXIV, and eventually Gacrux as part of their efforts to secure the construction site of Tyranny Park 2 on Bore Rock. Additionally, Turing's northern flank on Acamar IV would face a powerful outbreak of the Predator Strain Icon Predator Strain, but was easily turned back by the ever-watchful Helldivers.

In the early afternoon of August 19, with the eventual liberation of Gacrux an hour away from its completion, an unprovoked crisis began in earnest in the East. Amidst what the Science Icon Centre of Science deemed a "massive population explosion" due to exponential spore outflow from The Gloom, the Terminids Icon Terminids would launch 4 massive onslaughts within under two hours, attacking Erata Prime, Fenrir III, Turing, and Achernar Secundus, each with a force of at least 30 million broods.

The scale of this assault was unprecedented, and just after the liberation of Gacrux was finally completed, High Command would immediately issue a dire alert to the Helldivers Companion Helldivers to immediately deploy to the affected worlds and stop the assault. Solemnly, it was acknowledged that the Helldivers would likely not be able to stop the assaults outright, but that they would have to kill 6,000,000,000 Terminids over the next two weeks to drag their population numbers down and halt their advance. Additionally, the Helldivers were advised to hold Fort Union and its Maximum Security City of New Hope City at all costs.

Helldivers Companion Helldivers prioritized the defense of Fenrir III, leading to success in repelling the Terminids on late evening of August 20th. Yet the grand plans of reinforcing the other defenses were quickly shut down, as Automatons Icon Automatons have launched their own offensive on August 21st.

While all contact with personnel still remaining in the Science Icon Xenoentomology Centre was lost, an exorbitant increase in the population of Hunters was reported. It would be discovered that, in the ensuing chaos, massive tanks containing Terminid Hunter Pheromones would be breached and their contents spilled out into the wild.

Operation Split Synapse

Turing would remain lost ever since its fall on August. Between the ongoing triple offensive and the subsequent Great Expedition into The Gloom, Turing was simply left waiting in queue behind many other campaigns with higher priority. However, come October 2185, Turing would finally find its long-awaited chance to return to Super Earth's embrace. Following the success of Operation Calamari Damacy, the Helldivers would immediately reroute their efforts onto Turing, in hopes of recovering the Science Icon Xenoentomology Centre. On September 30th, 2185, the town of Carbondale was retaken by the Helldivers, allowing for a crucial beachhead to be established so that the SEAF logo S.E.A.F. could intensify combat operations against the Terminids Icon Terminids on the planet.

By October 1st, the Helldivers had entered the city of Periwinkle Mills and Turing's liberation was only a few hours away. However, orders from High Command would soon come in to apparently take away Turing's freedom right off its fingers. Ongoing efforts to decrypt Automaton data had identified crucial intel caches on Menkent and Aesir Pass, with only one being able to be recovered. As such, the Helldivers had to make the painful but ultimately necessary decision to divert all available forces towards the Automaton Front, which essentially halted the campaign on Turing completely.

Fortunately, the small contingent of Helldivers remaining on Turing managed to hold the line and, on October 2nd, liberated the city of Periwrinkle Mills. This would allow the SEAF logo S.E.A.F. to initiate an offensive into the planetary capital of Chatoyant, however the lack of proper Helldiver support would essentially make all efforts null and void, as the lack of manpower wouldn't allow for an advance. Regardless, the Helldivers still remaining on Turing would be able to continue advancing Turing's liberation planetwide. Turing would finally be liberated on October 6th, 2185, marking a massive victory on the Terminid front

Operation Tide of Tyranny

Turing designated as Major Order Hold Objective. Turing attacked November 21 by Lvl. 40 Terminid onslaught. Defense of Chatoyant helped win defense. MO still failed.

Operation Belt of Liberty

Attacked on February 26th, 2186. Defended against the Terminids alongside Oshaune. Defended February 27th

Termicide 2.0 Research

Termicide 2.0 research conducted at Turing required Helldivers to collect 15,000,000 Common Samples during Operation Chrome Bulwark and to kill 5,000,000 Bile Titans during Operation Circuit Breaker.

Operation Spore Cleaning

TLDR: Attacked May 2nd 2186 alongside Brilliance. 48 hour defense. Due to Brilliance defense, it was ignored until Brilliance was defended and MO ended, allowing Helldivers to divert to Turing. Situation would seem lost until Chatoyant liberation gave enough of a boost to win defense on May 4th at 21:30 SEST
