| “ | Brainwashed since birth and full of naive bravado, Cyborg Radicals don't hesitate to throw their lives away for their twisted version of "freedom". In truth, they are devoted to nothing so much as violence; this barbarous fanaticism perfectly encapsulates why the Cyborgs can no longer be called human. | „ |

The Cyborg Radical is a common
Automaton unit that assists their robotic children where
Cyborgs are present.
Anatomy
A Cyborg Radical as shown by Strohmann News.
The
Cyborg Radical, being originally human, looks much like what one would expect a human to look like. The differences begin exactly where the man ends and the machine begins. The Radical, being a Cyborg, has mechanical legs and arms and all sorts of machinery and biomechanical augmentations hooked onto their human forms. They tower above typical humans, well over two meters in height.
Their entire bottom half has been replaced by dark red, robotic legs, as have their arms. While their left arm is just a dark red, robotic arm attached to the gib of their missing limb, their right arm has instead been replaced with a triple-barreled Hydrogen Scattergun. This shotgun-like semi-automatic weapon fires 10 x 10 Hydrogen-propelled pellets which deal high damage at close range and will often kill in one shot.
The Cyborgs have seemingly gouged out their eyes and replaced them with new, red glowing cybernetic ones. Additionally, they have replaced their jaws with respirators and, judging by the several pipes going in and out of their torsos, replaced a majority of their internal organs with machinery. Naturally, these mechanical enhancements make them much tougher to kill than a normal human; however, the parts of them that are still flesh-and-blood are more vulnerable than steel, not to mention a bullet to the brain will kill them just as quickly as any human.
Behavior
A Cyborg Radical on the battlefield.
The Radical will rush towards any nearby
Helldivers, primarily attacking them with their triple arm cannon.
They can perform a variety of melee attacks, many of which can knock down a Helldiver:
- A scattergun bash
- A roundhouse kick with wide coverage
- A flying knee with considerable forward movement
- A stomp against grounded divers
Occasionally, the Radical will throw a smoke grenade towards a Helldiver to try to conceal its advance. Additionally, they will occasionally dash sideways to avoid incoming fire.
Tactics
- The head is vulnerable to high-damage weapons such as the APW-1 Anti-Materiel Rifle and JAR-5 Dominator that can destroy it in one shot.
- The main body has a large amount of health, but multiple parts can be hit by explosions at once, making them its biggest counter as long and they aren't in melee range.
- Because of their lack of armor, Radicals are vulnerable to being staggered by weapons with enough damage, which can prove lifesaving since the stagger will stop them from performing their kicks and will interrupt their laser cannons
- Radicals will throw smoke grenades to cover their advance, making them more difficult to target by Helldivers and their sentries. These grenades are distinguished by their white glow and can be kicked away by Helldivers but can also be used to cover their retreat.
Trivia
- In the "Return of the Cyborgs" Deep Dive, it is stated by the developers that the Radicals make use of "Techno Martial Arts."[1] This may not be an exaggeration as many martial arts traditions (such as Karate and Capoeira) come from oppressed classes who had been barred from using actual weapons.
- The Cyborgs' martial arts primarily consist of roundhouse kicks, knee jabs, and a curb stomp used as a finisher.
- Occasionally, when killed, the Radical may fall to one knee and raise their fist to the sky before dying. The Agitators do not appear to have this animation.[2]
- Like the Agitator, Radicals are very tall, appearing to stand at roughly 7 to 8 feet.
- There are two variants of the Radical, one male (with a short mohawk haircut) and one female (long dreads on each side of the head). They have separate sets of voicelines.
- The Radical somewhat resembles the Strogg from the Quake series.
