| “ | Gatekeeper constructs represent a vainglorious Illuminate attempt at making Veracitors combat ready; much like strapping guns to a forklift. Gatekeepers are piloted only by the most narrow-minded of Illuminate, and their discriminatory lasers cut through all Free-Thinking life as soon as it comes near. | „ |
| ~ Official Description[1] |
The Gatekeeper is an
Illuminate piloted exosuit present on planets where
Appropriators are present. These novel piloted armored suits were first encountered on Seasse, their design reminiscent of the Tripod from the First Galactic War. Later disassembly would confirm the Gatekeeper is actually a repurposed Veracitor, having been heavily modified for combat against the
Super Earth Armed Forces.[1]
The Gatekeeper is one of two variants of pilotable exosuits, which can be easily recognized by their deathly white plate color and two armaments, allowing the pilot to provide their Squ'ith brethren with devastating support fire. Just like with the Veracitor, the pilot pod is found underneath the mech, where it is controlled by a single Overseer.
Behavior
The Gatekeeper will stay in medium to long distances, depending on the available sightline. It will then proceed to "lock-on" to its target, be this a
Helldiver or any called-in vechicle. If the line of sight is not broken, after a short while the Gatekeeper will begin to rapid fire onto the target and it is capable of destroying walkers in one salvo.
Tips
- Together with the Veracitor, a key feature of the Gatekeeper is the pilot seat, located underneath the mech.
- While sniping the pilot seems like the fastest way of dealing with the mech, its actual weakpoints are instead the sides of the pilot pod that keep it attached, as well as the eye on the top of the construct.
- This "eye" construct's forehead appears to be a shield generator as when destroyed it will permanently disable the pilots shield.
Trivia
- The Gatekeeper's design notably resembles the Umbaran mobile heavy cannon (UMHC) from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, both in terms of the shielded cockpit and the white coloration.
- As with the Veracitor, if a Gatekeeper is disabled by a stun weapon such as a G-23 Stun grenade, G-109 Urchin, A/M-23 EMS Mortar Sentry or Orbital EMS Strike, the Overseer pilot can be seen frustratedly hitting the controls to get it working again.
- Based on the description of the Gatekeeper, it can be considered a technical - an improvised fighting vehicle mounting crew-served weapons.
