The Cyborg Agitator is an uncommon
Automaton unit that assists their robotic children where
Cyborgs are present. Compared to similar Radicals, these Cyborgs wear heavier armor that can deflect small arms fire on their body.
Anatomy
A Cyborg Agitator on the battlefield.
The
Cyborg Agitator, much like the Radical, is not too dissimilar from a normal human. However, much like the Radical too, the differences with humans begin exactly where the man ends and the machine begins.
Just like Radicals, Agitators have their own bionic augmentations. Their lower portions are mechanical legs, and their arms have been replaced by robotic limbs. Where the Radical and the Agitator differ is in how much protection they put on. The Agitators wear protective armor to deflect incoming gunfire; this armor renders them temporarily impervious to staggering and protects them from incoming damage. However, this armor can be broken with enough gunfire, which will stun them for a couple seconds before they go back to fighting.
Behavior
Unlike Radicals, Agitators keep their distance and only charge at
Helldivers if they find themselves surrounded or without any nearby allies. They still perform melee kicks like Radicals but only when a Helldiver gets too close.
Agitators rely on accurate arm cannon fire, and can charge shots to inflict greater damage. They will occasionally seek cover around corners or behind low obstacles. They may also throw a high explosive grenade to chase Helldivers out of cover or to damage sentries and vehicles.
Whenever an Agitator has
Automatons nearby, they will take command of them and enhance their combat capabilities. These enhanced Automatons move faster, attack more frequently and are more accurate, making them exceptionally lethal. Agitators can only enhance Automaton Troopers, Devastators and Berserkers.
When an Agitator takes command, these units will pause while their programming is overridden, leaving them vulnerable to gunfire. Should the Agitator be slain in combat, the units it was controlling will go into suspension again before returning to their normal state.
Tactics
- A way to immediately know if an Agitator is around is if any Automaton Troopers, Devastators or Berserkers have their eyes glow differently.
- Agitators tend to keep their distance while they are controlling any Automatons. Once they have no Automatons they can control, they fight much like the Cyborg Radical, although without charging into combat and without the ability to throw smoke grenades.
- Agitators will be staggered for a couple seconds once any part of their armor is destroyed, leaving them vulnerable to headshots.
Trivia
- Much like the Radical, the Agitator knows martial arts and will perform melee kicks if a Helldiver gets too close. Similarly, Agitators seem to have male and female variants, each with their own unique sets of voicelines. However, it can be hard to tell the difference as female Agitators have deeper voices than female Radicals and they look visually identical to males thanks to their armor. Nevertheless, their voices are distinct and slightly higher pitched than those of male Agitators and Radicals.
- Like Radicals, Agitators are very tall and tower above
Helldivers, appearing to be somewhere in the range of 7 to 8 feet tall. - Agitators appear to have a battery instead of a heart, as they can occasionally be seen clutching the metal disc on their chest and convulsing for a moment after being injured, almost as if they are repairing themselves.
- In terms of gameplay and behavior, Agitators are very similar to the Sangheili, also known as Elites, from the Halo video game franchise. Both command squads of lower-ranking enemies (
Automatons in the Agitator's case and lesser Covenant in regards to Elites) and cause them to receive a debuff once they are dead (temporarily stunning
Automatons in Agitators and causing other Covenant to flee with the Elites). Agitators will also often strafe the player, crouch and hide behind cover, again similar to Elites. The only differences are that Elites possess regenerating energy shields which Agitators lack, and they do not buff other enemies. The
Illuminate Overseer more closely resembles the Elites in terms of design. - The Agitator Armor has a heavy resemblance to the Standard Engineer RIG from Dead Space.
