The Umlaut Sector, often referred to as the Barrier Planets, is a sector found on the Eastern Front in Helldivers 2.

With the Terminid outbreak at the start of the galactic war threatening to spread out of control, Super Earth scientists developed the Terminid Control System: a planet-wide bug extermination network. The TCS would be constructed on an unbroken line of barrier planets in the Umlaut Sector, with the plan being to quarantine the bugs behind them.

After the bugs were pushed back to the barrier planets, where after weeks of work SEAF engineers had finished a building a network of massive, Termicide-dispensing towers upon each Barrier Planet: the key to the Terminid Control System. Once activated, the TCS would exterminate every Terminid on that planet, and inoculate it against all future infestations. However, surges in Terminid activity also forced the S.E.A.F. Engineers to evacuate, with the Helldivers being sent into activate the TCS at any cost.

The Terminid Control System would later be successfully and fully activated several days later thanks to the efforts of the Helldivers. The Termicide would work as intended, culling millions of Terminids on the Barrier Planets. Super Earth's citizens could finally rest easy, knowing their children were forever safe from being eaten alive by fascist insects...

TCS Failure Incident

A month after activating the Terminid Control System, S.E.A.F. units stationed on the Barrier Planets reported a significant surge in Terminid reproduction rates. Notably, the offspring from this surge exhibited immunity to Termicide, a previously deemed impossible feat by Super Earth Scientists. The Terminids successfully infiltrated and infested the Termicide towers, converting them into massive colonies and hatcheries. The situation escalated to the extent that Meridia became overrun, rendering the planet unsalvageable.

In response, Helldivers were promptly instructed to halt the ongoing Operation, Legitimate Undertaking on the Automaton front and redirect their efforts to the Barrier Planets. Their mission: to deactivate the corrupted TCS on the remaining planets. They succeeded in this Noble goal on April 5th, successfully deactivating the TCS on Erata Prime, Turing, and Fenrir III.

Collapse of Meridia

After the catastrophic failure of the TCS, the Super Earth High Command declared the Operation "Enduring Peace" which the final goal was the total destruction of the Meridian Supercolony, this Supercolony began propagating spores to all the sector, ignoring the FTL Lines, and making attacks so catastrophic, that the planets fell in just minutes, for this, the Super Earth High Command declared was "unsavable" and decided that the best option to ensure the safety of the Federation of Super Earth was to collapse the planet within a Singularity, after retaking planets close to Meridia, and deploying Dark Fluid in the crust of Meridia, on the 2nd of June, Meridia was successfully collapsed into a Singularity, now being known as the Meridian Black Hole.

Return of the Illuminate and movement of the Meridian Black Hole

When the attack on Calypso failed, the Illuminate started a series of attacks on the southern part of the Galaxy, which the purpose of producing Dark Energy to move the Meridian Black Hole, which the goal of destroying Super Earth itself.

Meridia started losing FTL Lines, and on the 2nd of February, all of them were lost, and on the 4th of February, the first movement of the Meridian Black Hole, and quickly it was determinate that the final goal of Meridia was the Sol System, to destroy Super Earth, and on the 12th of February, Meridia crossed the boundary between the Umalut and Orion Sectors.

Super Earth began creating the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator, on Pilen V, which the goal of stopping Meridia, but before Super Earth could achieve this, the Illuminate began a series of attacks on the Centre of Science and other infrastructures on the Umalut Sector, the Centre of Science and Xenoentomology Centre were severely damaged, but the Federation activated the Repulsive Gravity Field Generator, stopping the Meridian Black Hole.

Post Meridian Crisis

Since the successful resolution of Crisis on April 29th, 2185, Umlaut Sector has only been experiencing medium Terminid outbreaks with a short Gloom incursion on October 9th, 2185. All of those have been successfully dealt with.
