Fort Union is one of the eight planets that reside within the Orion Sector. It is also the site for New Hope City, one of the Federation's first Maximum Security Cities. With no expense spared for surveillance and detection of dissidents, it is expected to be an ironclad bastion of Freedom.
Topography
It has green plains as far as the eye can see, with small seas, preferably freshwater, although this fact is not known, there are no large trees, and instead there are small plants that do not rise much from the ground, the planet also has moderately steep hills that are difficult to climb. Similar to Acamar IV and Achernar Secundus.
History
Second Galactic War
Operation Damage Control
Fort Union was a peaceful planet colony of Super Earth right on the Eastern Galactic Rim. Being at the tail end of the Orion Sector, Fort Union was colonized during the Great Expansion Era after the First Galactic War came to an end.
However, after its initial colonization, its history would go on without any other events worthy of note, even as the Second Galactic War began around it. Given its location closer to Super Earth than its peers in the Terminid Front, Fort Union would remain unscathed for the entirety of 2184, with it only seeing action until May 5th, 2185, when a
Predator Strain outbreak from Terrek made planetfall on its surface.
Fortunately the defense of the planet was a success, with the last outbreaks of Terminids being contained by the morning of the 6th of May, giving Fort Union a brief reprieve from the ongoing galactic war.
Operation System Update
Amidst the ongoing Battle for Super Earth against the
Illuminate, a former satellite technician on Fort Union developed a malware system capable of disabling Illuminate technology. Recognizing that successful transmission of this code to the Great Host could deal significant damage to the Illuminate Fleet, the planet's long range satellites were rapidly retrofired to transmit the code to the Illuminate spacecraft.
Unfortunately before work could be finished, Fort Union would attacked once more by the
Predator Strain and in the face losing the last Mega Cities,
Helldivers were redeployed to the planet to ensure the deployment of the malware. Thankfully the defense was successful and the civilian-created malware was successfully deployed, resulting in the destruction of multiple large spacecraft and an overall reduction in the
Illuminate fleet strength by 5% -- all but ensuring the battle of
Super Earth may soon be a victory.
Whilst serving freedom is it's own reward, for their role in the ensuring defeat of the
Illuminate, the survival of the human race and the triumph of managed democracy, the unnamed technician who developed the code would be inducted into the
S.E.A.F. and given a field promotion to Command of the 405th Cyberwarfare Detachment.
Operation Culling Nightmares
Though the dedication of the
Helldivers remains unwavering throughout the relentless assault on Managed Democracy, it would take its toll on our citizens' sense of well-being. The images of our cities in flames, and butchery of innocent citizens, broadcast on all news channels, are impossible to forget. Surveys indicated that citizens fears of invasion, disenfranchisement, and dismemberment of loved ones is at an all-time high.
It is for this reason that on the 25th of July, 2185 Super Earth Government would order the construction of Maximum Security Cities with ground being broken for the first three pilot Cities on Fort Union, Fort Sanctuary and Emeria almost immediately. With no expense spared for surveillance and detection of dissidents, these cities are expected to be ironclad bastions of Freedom. Alongside this would come a public relations campaign, meant to remind our citizens that they are protected by the Galaxy's greatest fighting force, but killing the enemies of Freedom that arise most frequently in citizen nightmares.
The vigorous, spirited efforts by the
Helldivers would have the desired effect as their acts of valor were being broadcast to all workplace and home televisions across the federation, showcasing the inspiring and visceral destruction of our enemies inflicted every day. With citizen nightmare incidences at a 6-month low, construction would begin in earnest on all three Maximum Security Cities: New Yearning City on Fort Sanctuary, New Aspiration City on Emeria, and New Hope City on the planet Fort Union.
All three of these cities have been designed by the Federation's preeminent security experts to be impregnable to dissidence and Tyranny: high-definition facial recognition cameras pre-installed in every block and building, increased foot and drone patrols, and dedicated surveillance satellites are just a few of the state-of-the-art safety features built into these fortresses of Democracy.
Thanks to these features and buoyed by the inspired feats of the
Helldivers, applications for residency would skyrocket. All applicants will of course be rigorously scanned with thorough background checks ensuring every resident is as patriotic and vigilant against dissidence as possible. Thanks to the
Helldivers, our citizens are once more reassured that their lives, livelihoods, and way of life is more secure than ever.
Operation Ultrakill
On the 19th of August, 2185, multiple large-scale attacks perpetrated by the
Terminids would strike Turing, Erata Prime, Achernar Secundus and Fenrir III as well as other Gloom-adjacent planets as spore outflow rose to unprecedented levels and continued to grow exponentially. Even when under siege, the Xenobiologists at the
Centre of Science remained cool and analyzed the situation, quickly coming to the conclusion that the
Terminids were undergoing a massive population explosion. They also concluded that the only way to stop the assault was to incur a drastic reduction in the Terminid population.
Immediately, High Command called all units into high alert and issued orders for 6,000,000,000
Terminids to be eliminated, while also cautioning
Helldivers that it was possible that the Terminids would not stop attacking until this quota had been met. Additionally, High Command also made it clear that New Hope City, the flagship Maximum Security City located on Fort Union, had to be protected at all costs to ensure the security of the Maximum Security City project.
Whilst this seemed like a reasonable objective at first with multiple heavily defended planets between Fort Union and the Gloom, what High Command could not have predicted was Democracies other enemies -- the
Automatons and
Illuminate -- taking advantage of the situation by launching their own invasions. With freedom's enemies pushing on every front, the
S.E.A.F. was stretched to breaking point, with only the emergency deployment of thousands of newly-built Super Destroyers stemming the tide of tyranny.
Despite this, by the 30th of August the
Terminid fascist horde had reacted Fort Union. Even worse, the outbreak would primarily consist of the much feared
Predator Strain would occur, having spread after the Tyranny Park 2 outbreak on Bore Rock on the 27th of August. Getting back to Fort Union,
Ministry of Defense analysts would class this particular invasion as a level 32, with fierce fighting beginning almost immediately.
13 hours into the outbreak, Munition city would be secured by the
S.E.A.F., giving the defenders access to much needed armaments. Not only that but the victory on Emeria against the
Automatons would free up thousands of
Helldivers to reinforce Fort Union, with final victory being declared half an hour past midnight on the 31st. Whilst a monuments victory, neighboring Nublaria I had also come under attack early that day and should it fall, Fort Union would be completely surrounded. As such, the
Helldivers would rally on Nublaria I for one last defense to finally end put an end to the tide of tyranny.

Trivia
- The unnamed satellite technician who developed malware capable of disabling Illuminate technology, is likely a reference to David Levinson from the movie independence day, responsible for saving Earth by developing a virus to disable the aliens' deflector shield technology.
- Otaru is a port city on Hokkaido (Japan’s northernmost island), lies northwest of Sapporo on Ishikari Bay. The city is known for glassworks, music boxes and sake distilleries.
- Xiamen, historically romanized as Amoy, is a port city on China’s southeast coast, across a strait from Taiwan. It is known for its beautiful coastal scenery, unique Hakka earthen buildings (Tulous), and its historical significance as a British-run treaty port and Special Economic Zone from 1842 to 1912.
