Scorching heat bears down on this arid world, where clusters of palm trees rise around pools of life-giving water.
~ Companion App Description.

Zygos is one of 8 planets that reside within the Orion Sector. Alongside Fronteria, it was added to the game on May 5th, 2026 and is one of the first three planets to have the Oasis Biome. It would become the first playable Oasis planet upon its addition, as Big Rock would never be reached prior to Zygos' addition.

Topography and Astrography

Zygos, similar to planets like Big Rock and Fronteria, is a planet of sightful dunes dotted by sparse puddles and wellsprings surrounded by blossoming palms, olive trees and green shrubberies. The small pockets of water on Zygos may very well be the only places on the planet's otherwise arid, coarse desert surface where colonization is suitable. Understandably, Zygos' arid climate makes for an intense heat, which increases stamina drain and increases the heat buildup rate of weapons reliant on heat sinks, while also making them cool down slower. However, the temperatures on the planet can usually sit well around the 39 °C (102.2 °F) during the day[1]. Despite the intense heat, Super Earth describes the planet as having a "temperate" atmosphere.[2]

Due to intense nuclear bombardment during the First Galactic War, Zygos was left too irradiated to be suitable for colonization under the Federal allowances for ambient residual radiation. However, by May 2186, the ambient radiation on various Oasis planets would fall below this threshold, allowing for the Ministry of Expansion Insignia Ministry of Expansion to scout them for luxury development projects. Despite this, various settler dwellings and urban settlements had already been built on the planet's surface prior to the Helldivers being cleared for deployment on Zygos. Additionally, various SEAF logo S.E.A.F. installations can be encountered throughout the planet despite there not having been much colonization efforts.

The Zygos System consists of planet Zygos itself, its orbiting white, rocky moon, and at least 4 other astronomical bodies, which are two gas giants, one with a planetary ring around it, a gray, rocky exoplanet (also possibly a moon of the gas giant with a ring system) and a brown, rocky exoplanet.

Zygos sits right at the edge of the core of the Orion Sector. It's supply lines into Fort Union and Veld makes it a critical flank for any Terminids Icon Terminid incursions into the sector. Control over Zygos is of great importance in all matters regarding the prevention and curtailing of further Terminid spread into the Eastern Galactic Rim and further south.

History

First Galactic War

Nuking of Zygos

Zygos had been discovered by the Old Super Earth Federation of Super Earth at some point prior or during the First Galactic War. During said armed conflict, the Federation saw itself forced to bomb the entire planet's surface with nuclear weapons, which rendered Zygos unable to be colonized (if not further settled and developed) after the end of the war and during the century thereafter.

Second Galactic War

Operation Beach Bash

For 100 years, Zygos watched the Great Democratization come and go and, as the Second Galactic War grew, it watched the war pass it by as the ambient radiation prevented both Liberty and its enemies alike from attempting to reach its surface. Thanks to this radiation, Zygos endured the first two years of the war completely untouched while seeing some development as, by May 2186, there were already some urban settlements and frontier dwellings built throughout its surface.

However, Zygos wouldn't remain disconnected from the war for long. By May 2186, the ambient residual radiation levels would finally fall beneath the Federal allowance threshold, which allowed the Ministry of Expansion Insignia Ministry of Expansion to scout both it and nearby planet Fronteria as potential sites on which new luxury residential development projects could be carried out. However, the temperate atmosphere born out of the nuclear cleansing from the war of yesteryear had also attracted a nefarious invader onto its amber sands: The Terminids Icon Terminid Horde.

Not long after the Helldivers had secured nearby Brilliance, a massive Terminid outbreak had spread throughout the core of the Orion Sector. Spearheaded by the Predator Strain Icon Predator Strain and the SporeBurstStrainIcon Spore Burst Strain, which had begun showcasing new mutations, the Terminid scum would launch a massive attack onto both Heeth and Zygos on May 5th, 2186, with the newly altered Spore Burst strain leading the bulk of the infestation onto Zygos.

Because of this, the Helldivers Companion Helldivers would receive immediate orders to defend both Zygos and Fronteria from incoming Terminid onslaughts. The offensive on Zygos was estimated to have a force somewhere around the 50 million broods. The planet's defenses were expected to hold for 48 hours before the Terminids could successfully take control of the planet. Immediately, the Super Earth Icon Democracy Space Station and the majority of the Helldiver Fleet would warp onto Zygos' surface and commence deployments throughout its beautiful, scenic deserts.

Shortly after the arrival of the Super Earth Icon Democracy Space Station's arrival, it would activate the Eagle Storm, paralyzing the advance of the SporeBurstStrainIcon Spore Burst Strain, though at the cost of Heeth being lost by the afternoon of May 6th. With the enemy advanced stopped, the Helldivers Companion Helldivers pressed forward with the counteroffensive, making short work of the Terminids. By the morning of May 7th, the Terminid attack on Zygos would be successfully contained, allowing a contingent of Helldivers to depart for Keid in order to tackle a Strategic Opportunity outlined by Super Earth High Command while the rest of the Helldiver Fleet remained on Heeth to attempt to gain ground back from the fascist pest.

In the days after the first assault on Zygos, the Helldivers would have to first divert to defend Fronteria and then would receive a second strategic opportunity to retrieve samples from HD2 cyborgsCyborg-controlled territories. But this opportunity would go without much notice as not only had the Cyborgs deeply entrenched themselves but, on the morning of May 10th, the Predator Strain Icon Predator Strain launched a second Superonslaught onto Zygos, forcing the Helldivers to return from the Terminid front so as to halt the Terminid outbreak for good.
