Helldivers 2 is a 2024 video game developed by the Swedish developer, Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on February 8, 2024 on PlayStation 5 and Windows, and later released on Xbox on August 26, 2025.

Plot

Helldivers 2 is set a century after the triumph of Super Earth Icon Super Earth, and Managed Democracy, over the Cyborg Emblem 2 Cyborgs, the Bugs Emblem Bugs, and the IlluminateHD Illuminate during the events of Helldivers (2015). It was discovered that, upon death, the Terminids Icon Terminids produce a unique and highly valuable resource, Element-710. Farms are established on human-colonized worlds, but containment is eventually breached, releasing the bugs and causing chaos and destruction. Simultaneously, a new threat emerges in the form of the Automatons Icon Automatons, a mechanical army intent on destroying humanity. Soon after, an old enemy, the Illuminate Icon Illuminate re-emerges to seek vengeance. The game begins with a recruitment video for the Helldivers[2], who are elite shock troops dropped from orbit to reclaim the colonized lands. Environmental storytelling is prevalent throughout the game, with various logs, notes, and propaganda messages available for players to find during gameplay. The story and progress of the war is told via Major Orders, timed main objectives within the game.

Reception

Upon release, Helldivers 2 attracted immense interest, overwhelming servers with a peak of 457,649 concurrent players on Steam charts within two weeks, surpassing popular titles like Destiny 2, Starfield, Monster Hunter: World, and Grand Theft Auto V.[3]

The soundtrack for Helldivers 2 was composed by Wilbert Roget II, with additional work by Ross Tregenza. It was officially released to all platforms on September 20th, 2024, featuring 12 tracks. On April 8th, 2025 the soundtrack for Helldivers 2 won the award for Music at the 21st BAFTA Games Awards.

However, soundtracks played from the Hive World or Cyberstan are still absent in the album listing as of now.
