Yed Prior is one of the six planets that reside within the Tanis Sector.
Topography and Astrography
A Super Destroyer after FTL jumping onto Yed Prior's orbit.
Similar to Charon Prime, Ingmar and Ubanea, Yed Prior is a temperate planet of white marble cliffs, ridges and shores covered in a crimson algae that spreads all over the planet's supercontinental landmass. Besides the picturesque look of its ripe, undeveloped valleys and the imposing mountains that abound in the yet-to-be-democratized wilderness, not much else worthy of note can be seen in Yed Prior, as it is just another planet far in the Northern Galactic Fringe. The only notable phenomenon that occurs on Yed Prior are regular Ion Storms that periodically occur all throughout the planet due to Yed Prior's magnetic field displaying regular electromagnetic activity. During these Ion Storms, all Stratagems are disabled, except for any SEAF Artillery that is activated during the mission, as well as the minimap being blocked by static.
The Velvet Valleys of Yed Prior
A particular form of xenoflora present on Yed Prior, although not exclusive to it, are plants that will be colloquially referred to as Spore Clusters. Alternatively known as Moor Mushrooms or Smokescreen Fungi; Spore Clusters are, as their name indicate, clusters of fungal growths commonly found besides rocks, dead trees and bushes. These plants can be found frequently and can be used for temporary cover since, when disturbed, they release a cloud of spores that can be used as a smokescreen. However, trigger discipline when shooting around these is greatly advised, since they will knock any nearby Helldivers to the ground with a violent spore release if they are hit by gunfire, while also leaving them stunned and disoriented for several seconds once they get up. Besides these fungi, many particular types of bushes and shrubberies can sometimes be found scattered in the wild, either close to or on mudfields littered with rock mounds.
The White Cliffs of Yed Prior
Yed Prior is not home to any Mega Cities or known facilities of importance to the ongoing Galactic War. However, Yed Prior's surface is dotted by multiple scattered urbanized civilian settlements that house a significant majority of its rural population. Besides these settlements, the surface of Yed Prior is also home to a countless number of isolated farms, dwellings, camps, villages, broadcast stations and
S.E.A.F. installations that can be commandeered by
Helldivers during their missions.
The Yed Prior System is comprised of planet Yed Prior itself, its orbiting moon and at least 3 other astronomical bodies, which are a gas giant, its orbiting beige moon and a volcanic planet with a white ring system which, during certain times of the day, appears red from Yed Prior's surface. The Yed Prior System sits on the border with the Gellert Sector, being one of the only two ways into the system alongside neighboring Zefia. It's proximity to Mintoria makes Yed Prior's protection important for all matters of security regarding Mintoria's
Ultramafic Mines.
History
Second Galactic War
Interim (Oct. 27th - Oct. 28th)
A Helldiver has a close call with a recently shot down
Automaton Gunship as he advances towards an enemy Gunship Facility. January 28th, 2186.
Yed Prior was, for most of the Second Galactic War, just another unremarkable colony of Super Earth, its colonists fishing along the whitened shorelines of this crimson planet. However, if there's something that Automatons can not stand, it certainly is peace. For Hatred is embedded into their code.
By September 2184, the Tanis Sector had become a frontline of the Second Galactic War, as the Automatons itched to get the resources necessary to restart their expansionist campaigns after the complete eradication of their western holdings at the Battle of Troost back in August.
After the fall of Clasa on September 19th, Yed Prior and Zefia became encircled alongside with nearby Demiurg, which prompted the colonial officials of the 3 planets to immediately commence preparations for a potential invasion.
After the fall of Zefia on October 23rd, Yed Prior's colonial defenders would receive news of a buildup of Automaton forces at Clasa as they prepared for a new assault. With Zefia's refugees piling up at Yed's spaceports, the situation was critical, and when the Automatons eventually attacked Yed Prior on October 27th, shortly after Liberty Day, Yed Prior's colonial defenders were overwhelmed and, as such, called for the Helldivers.
However, the Helldivers, having to devote resources for the defense of Gatria in order to prevent the loss of the Jin Xi Sector and the Terminid Research Preserve with it, were unable to answer to Yed Prior's call.
Yed Prior would fall on October 28th, after a valiant yet feeble defense against the robotic menace, its colonists going into hiding in secret underground bunkers and safe havens throughout the planet, as all FTL Lines connected to Yed Prior led to Automaton space.
Operation Information Reclamation
A Helldiver destroys two gunship facilities with a hellbomb. January 26th, 2186.
Yed Prior would remain under
Automaton occupation for a little over three months, with the attention of the
S.E.A.F. instead being focused towards Operation Free Space and the construction of the weapon of mass planetary liberation known as the Star of Peace. However several days after the weapon's first firing against Penta on January 18th, 2186, it was discovered that a databreach occurred at the time of firing, and the blueprints for the star of peace may be compromised.
This was confirmed by the
Ministry of Truth, who also concluded that this was not an act of dissidence after a lengthy investigation. Therefore, it could only have been an act of espionage, committed by an external enemy of
Super Earth. The technical capacity and manual dexterity required for such reprehensible espionage ruled out the
Terminids, meaning that only the
Automatons or
Illuminate could have carried it out.
A Helldiver looks at the factory strider convoy destroyed by him and his squad. January 28th, 2186.
Suspicion was primarily focused towards the
Automatons. More specifically their recently discovered planetary database on Clasa, a central processing hub for the machine-collective. Unfortunately the extensive orbital defense network and heavy enemy fleet presence would complicate efforts to liberate the planet, as the
Helldiver Corps discovered on the 28th of January, as the relatively swift liberation of Sycamore Gardens gave way to a heavy Automaton counterattack which saw the
S.E.A.F. pushed off of the world.
Rethinking their strategy, the
Helldivers turned their attention to Yed Prior, who's liberation on the 29th of January would cut the
Automatons on Clasa off from the rest of the socialist legion and allow the
S.E.A.F. to pick their defenses apart piecemeal.
Operation Circuit Breaker
During the continiued
Cyborg offensive in April of 2186, Yed would come under rapid attack of
Jet Brigade on April 22nd. Only small amount of
Helldivers answered the call to defense, as this world was not on the list of priority targets for this Major Order - almost 50% of the corps were present on Charbal-VII at that time, retaking it after recent loss. System fell on afternoon of 23rd, with Jet Brigade taking minimal losses. A continued push towards Vog-Sojoth with Brigade is expected, with them retaining almost full strenght.
