Tactics
- Impact Grenades can be useful for taking out larger, more dangerous enemies quickly. Like Devastators, Scout Striders, Spewers and Brood Commanders.
- A Stun Grenade can stun Chargers. Players can then eliminate them with Orbital strikes, Airstrikes or powerful armor-piercing weapons without the possibility of missing in this state or drop an equipment pod on them to save ammunition. [2]
- Stun grenades can also stop a rushing Hulk Scorcher and interrupt their attacks, in this state Helldivers can line up a headshot with support weapons and take them out, or circle around them to destroy their heat sinks.
- Certain enemies that cannot be easily stopped with Stun grenades can be stopped with the Urchin Grenade, such as Fleshmobs.
- Thermite Grenades got a significant buff on September 17th. They now deal 2000 damage instead of 750; more than double the damage! However, now Helldivers have to know when to use them to get the most value, as they only have 3 normally, and 5 with the correct armor passive. With the Hulk's and Charger's armor lowered, Thermite can now kill them in one grenade, making it incredibly useful.
- Throwing Knives can silently kill light enemies, and certain medium enemies with vulnerable weak points. Enemies may still alert to near misses or partial damage.
- Seeker Grenades can be prepared about 20 seconds in advance of expected action. They still need enough battery to travel to their targets or they will drop harmlessly to the ground and wasted.
- If used correctly, Pyrotech Grenades can be incredibly powerful. Acting similarly to Thermite grenades, they deal high armor penetration damage and can take down Bile Titans, Factory Striders, or Harvesters.
- Lure Mines have a very short throw range, and arm as soon as they stick to a surface. This may result in unwanted reinforcement.
- Certain non-damaging grenades may be used against open Vox Engine vents, including Smoke and Shield Grenades; the throwable must have the "Explosive" property as listed in the Armory description, regardless of actual damage. Impact-fuzed and sticky grenades cannot be used in this manner.
Against spawners
Many throwables can be used against Bug Holes, Fabricators, and Warp Ships. Caveats and exceptions are listed below:
Special uses
- Dynamite - can destroy Bug Holes or Fabricators in its radius.
- Pineapple - small chance of destroying spawners with its submunitions.
- Thermite - can be affixed to exterior of a Fabricator or Warp Ship (even when shielded).
- Pyrotech - may wander out of Warp Ship, failing to destroy it with its final blast.
Cannot be used
- Smoke
- Stun
- Throwing Knife
- Urchin
- Arc - may inflict damage outside of the spawner; in rare cases, enemies with explosive components (such as Assault Raiders and Obtruders) may still cause the spawner's destruction.
- Smokescreen
- Lure Mine - may still destroy spawner if placed at a Bug Hole or Warp Ship entrance.
- Shield
