| ~ Armory Description |
The PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifl is an plasma marksman rifle in Helldivers 2, released during the game's collaboration with the Killzone franchise.
It is a unique burst-fire energy weapon that requires a brief moment to charge, before firing a 3-round burst of medium armor-penetrating, explosive plasma bolts. It is based on the Visari VC39 Accelerator Rifle from Killzone: Mercenary.
Role:
The PLAS-39 is a specialist weapon, designed to be used primarily against large threats, due to its small magazine size. It has terrific burst-damage potential due to its armor-piercing ammunition and fast burst shots.
It has an extremely low damage falloff of 0.1, allowing it to easily hit targets from far away.
Gameplay
- The gun must charge first, before it can fire. It takes about 1 second to charge each burst. The charge sound is very discreet, but one can tell the gun is ready to fire once the muzzle flashes for a brief second.
- As it is locked to burst, each magazine can realistically only shoots 3 times before needing to be reloaded. With 3 shots in the gun, plus 12 spare magazines, the PLAS-39 can fire a total of 39 bursts before having to find a resupply or ammo box.
- The weapon has very high burst damage, dealing 1050 damage per shot, if all plasma bolts hit. This makes it very useful for eliminating medium targets like Overseers, Devastators, and Gunships.
- The gun is able to kill all the medium-sized chaff of all factions with a single burst to the head, assuming all 3 shots hit. It can also shoot down a Gunship with a direct burst to an engine.
- The gun is able to kill Chargers and Hulks within two bursts to their unarmored rears.
- It is also capable of killing Heavy Devastators with two bursts to the front, even with the shield blocking the shots.
- The weapon suffers from nearly no projectile drop-off, no recoil, and its projectile speed is relatively fast, capable of accurately sniping enemies from as far as 200m without the need to compensate for drop.
- The gun also handles pretty well in third-person, a useful trait to have if it has to be used in close range. That said, it is recommended to maintain a distance of atleast 5m from the target, if it must be used up-close.
- There is a brief but noticeable delay between each shot, requiring the shooter to keep the gun aimed straight while firing to avoid the shots deviating off their target.
- This however, can be exploited if fighting tightly-grouped units of light chaff at range. Simply aim to the side while shooting to scatter the plasma bolts a bit to hit multiple targets. This is not ammo efficient, but can be helpful when one has no other option to thin down a horde before it closes in.
- Due to its explosive nature and very limited ammo supply; it is recommended to bring a dedicated sidearm for conventional and close-range combat.
Trivia
- This is the only Killzone collab weapon that isn't used by the Helghan Army.
- Despite being a burst weapon, the weapon's selector is set to "semi".
- As of patch 1.003.000, it is no longer in the "Sniper Rifle" tab and instead in the "Energy" tab.
- The PLAS-39 is so far the only weapon capable of injuring its user when holstering. If one fires a burst, then immediately goes to holster the gun while it is still mid-burst: the gun will continue firing until the 3 shots finish, even while it is already slung behind the user.
