| ~ Armory Description |
The FLAM-66 Torcher is a weapon in Helldivers 2 unlocked through the "Freedom's Flame" Warbond.
It is a miniaturized flamethrower compact enough to be stowed in a Hellpod along with a
Helldiver, compared to the larger FLAM-40 Flamethrower that requires its own Hellpod to deploy.
Role:
The FLAM-66 is a weapon that excels in crowd control and area denial, useful to have in situations where enemies heavily rely on massed melee-oriented chaff units to wear their enemies down.
In addition to dealing direct damage to enemies by bathing them in burning fuel, it can also set the ground on fire, which will burn anyone who steps on it, and slowly cook them with Freedom's enduring flame.
Gameplay
- The weapon is effectively a smaller FLAM-40. It still sets the ground on fire for area-denial against advancing enemies and can bypass heavy armor to deal damage to them, despite having no armor penetration traits.
- The weapon has the same characteristics as its bigger cousin, albeit with 40% less fuel.
- The weapon excels most against Terminids and the Illuminate.
- It is capable of effectively countering most of the terminid bestiary, barring Bile Titans and Shriekers.
- Its fire makes short work of hordes of voteless and wearing down overseers.
- A sidearm or support weapon is recommended to be carried along with this weapon for conventional combat, or against threats too far for the weapon to engage.
- The Dog Breath backpack drone is a great companion for the FLAM-66 as its caustic AoE can potentially stun enemies that get too close, making them vulnerable to being set on fire.
- Like the larger FLAM-40, it requires a second for the pilot light to ignite and start burning, if it is fired for the first time after being holstered. It is recommended to "fire" the weapon per-emptively, before getting into a fight.
- Armor with the "Inflammable" trait is recommended to reduce the damage done with one accidentally sets themself on fire, which is a common occurrence with pyro-inclined helldivers than one may think. Barring that, armor with the "Medkit" trait is another good candidate for the extra stims to heal the burns.
Trivia
- The weapon bears passing resemblance to the Astartes Pyreblaster in the Warhammer 40k universe.
